You Had Your Chance

With President Obama inaugurated, I have retired my list of 2008 presidential candidates. Readers will recall that there were a few dozen of them, even after I skipped some that I considered excessively frivolous. Many were isolated, self-appointed claimants with no constituencies nor credible leadership credentials. Others represented parties with long records of attention to the issues of our time. Under the American Bipolarchy, however, voters prefer to give or entrust power only to those parties that have had power already. So for the next four years, we're stuck and may as well make the best of it. The next four years may make more Americans receptive to alternatives in 2012, but I'm not going to hold my breath that long.
