These people fit your description of "ingrained with the selfish ideal of individualism and competition," since they obvious don't care whether anyone else has leverage -- just as their employers won't care about their supposed leverage if the same skills can be had more cheaply in another country. A lot of the same people insist that everyone has to be "competitive" in a global economy, and I'm sure they assume that anyone thinking differently is a loser. But I don't think they "know and understand" anything about cooperative labor, even subconsciously. The notion of true cooperation is probably alien to such people, since they probably assume that cooperation allows freeloaders to take advantage of hardworking victimized souls like themselves.Samuel Wilsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00934870299522899944noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8820814198873126054.post-41687454599940803132012-12-13T09:01:32.468-05:002012-12-13T09:01:32.468-05:00Just what leverage do they presume the individual ...Just what leverage do they presume the individual has, to dictate terms to the employer? Without the power of organized labor and denied any political power, the working class become little more than slaves or peasants. What is the point of living in a democratic society if not to use politics to mold that society?

Time and time again the right has shown itself to be no friend of labor, even though the rank-and-file members are working class. They are so ingrained with the selfish ideal of individualism and competition that they hate the very thought of people who forego competition and it's resultant majority of losers and opt for cooperation as the better means of achieving the goal of a good society.

They know and understand too well that a cooperative of labor will beat their individual ability every time - making them, in their own minds, the eternal losers that they feel everyone else should be.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
